Amazon's Affiliate Program

Amazon's Affiliate Program
2.0 1

From Wikipedia:

Amazon derives many of its sales (around 40% in 2008) from third-party sellers who sell products on Amazon. Associates receive a commission for referring customers to Amazon by placing links to Amazon on their websites if the referral results in a sale.

Too restrictive for me.

I had plans to use it here on rateandtalk.com to help fund the site, but the operating policies would put us under some specific constraints that don’t align with our larger vision. Some specific gripes I have:

  • Exclusivity: We can’t link to other retailers anywhere on rateandtalk.com
  • Email: We can’t include links in our digest emails that go out to our members.
  • Transparency: We can’t speak negatively about Amazon.

It still sounds like a good program if you’re willing to be a face for Amazon, but that’s not our goal here.
